The Friends of Murchison Park and El Paso Community Foundation recently unveiled a new design for Murchison Park, a popular overlook on Scenic Drive that provides sweeping views of El Paso and Juárez.
The new design, created by Santa Fe-based architecture firm Surroundings Studio, was revealed at a fundraiser for the park April 27 at the Foundation Room in Downtown El Paso.
The redesign includes ADA-accessible paths, shade trees, parking and safety improvements. The park, which opened in 1963, is named for El Paso pioneer and businessman Samuel Macintosh Murchison.
The initiative is being led by Friends of Murchison Park. Its members include Isha Rogers, Rick Francis, Josh Hunt, Ben Gonzalez, Robert Gonzalez, Steve Santamaria, Tania Schwartz, Michelle Assael and Jim Magee.
